Transforming Detroit’s Greenway into a connected network of vibrant, community-centered spaces.
To transform vacant and underused land across Detroit into welcoming public spaces that foster connection, learning, creativity, and community pride, empowering residents to engage with and shape their shared environment.
A thriving Detroit where every neighborhood has access to safe, inspiring community spaces and residents feel confident, connected, and proud to invest in their collective future.
The Joe Louis Greenway is one of Detroit’s most transformative civic investments—a 27.5-mile corridor designed to reconnect 23 neighborhoods through shared public space. More than a path, it represents a long-term vision for a city that is safer, more connected, and more equitable at the neighborhood level.
Yet infrastructure alone does not create community. While the Greenway establishes movement and access, many adjacent vacant lots remain underutilized—missing opportunities to foster gathering, learning, and local identity. These spaces shape how residents experience safety, pride, and belonging in their neighborhoods.
Bloom Detroit exists to activate what surrounds the Greenway. We transform vacant land into welcoming community spaces that bring people together, increase neighborhood visibility, and support youth engagement, education, and local collaboration. Our work ensures the Greenway is not only a route through the city, but a living network of places where community life happens.
We believe that when residents are given well-designed, accessible spaces to gather and participate, communities become more resilient, more connected, and more confident in shaping their future. Each Bloom site contributes to a broader system of civic infrastructure—grounded in people, place, and long-term stewardship—helping Detroit grow stronger from the neighborhood up.

The Joe Louis Greenway connects 23 neighborhoods through shared public space, mobility, and access. Bloom Detroit activates the places along this corridor where community life takes shape.
